Surviving the Apocalypse with a Healthy Smile: Dental Hygiene Tips for Challenging Times

Uncategorized

In a post-apocalyptic world, dental care may not be a top priority, but neglecting your teeth can lead to serious health problems. Whether it’s zombies, nuclear fallout, alien invasion, global warming, or the religious Rapture, if you’re alive, your teeth are still producing plaque. Here are some tips to help you maintain good dental hygiene even in the midst of an apocalypse.

Stock Up on Dental Supplies

One of the easiest things you can do to keep your teeth clean is to add toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss to your go-bag or stockpile. Consider keeping a set in your vehicle, bag, or purse so you’re always prepared. While manual toothbrushes can technically be used as weapons, this should be a last resort, and it’s not a recommended dental hygiene practice. Floss, on the other hand, can have multiple uses in a survival situation. If you don’t have access to traditional dental supplies, consider using mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Not to mention, most dentists offer these items for free at the end of each cleaning.

Practice Good Dental Hygiene Habits

Brushing and flossing regularly are important habits to maintain even during an apocalypse. Lack of proper nutrition and vitamins can increase the risk of developing dental problems, such as cavities, which can lead to fillings, root canals, or tooth extractions. Remember, our teeth are meant to stay in our mouths and require proper care to remain healthy. So brush and floss daily. After brushing, spit out the excess toothpaste, but don’t rinse your mouth with water. This allows your teeth to absorb the fluoride in the toothpaste for 15 to 20 minutes.

Seek Dental Care Before The Apocalypse

It’s always better to take care of dental problems before they become worse. Seek dental care before the apocalypse hits because it’s highly unlikely that your dentist will be accepting any new patients afterwards. So address any dental issues that you may have now. Waiting until it’s too late can lead to more serious dental problems down the line and unnecessary tooth pain.

Befriend your dentist

Consider befriending a dentist now and including them in your pre-apocalypse group. They can provide valuable advice and care to help you maintain dental hygiene and treat any dental problems that arise.

While daily luxuries may be gone in an apocalypse, dental hygiene is still within our reach. Take the time to maintain good dental habits and seek proper care before it’s too late. Your smile will thank you. So schedule that dentist appointment you’ve been putting off to make sure your teeth are also in tip top shape, just in case we have to go into survival mode…
